The Emberglass
“It has remained here for centuries. Quiet. Safe. As it should be.”
— an elderly Lathander monk charged with its care
The Emberglass is a sacred relic associated with Lathander and long kept by the Lathander monastery in the Pale. It is notable both for its religious importance and for unusual healing effects reported in its presence.
Lore
Accounts describe Emberglass as a small, perfectly polished six-sided shard marked with fine unfamiliar engravings. Gold-like filaments run through its interior, and a steady light can appear to move beneath its surface.
For most of its known history, however, Emberglass was not displayed as a weapon or public miracle. It remained a quiet object of custody in a dwindling monastery, tended as part of religious routine while generations passed around it.
For generations the relic remained under monastic custody in the Pale, where it was treated as a sacred trust rather than ordinary property. The monastery and the wider Church came to believe that Lathander intended the relic to pass toward Lady Elspeth Wilthorne as part of a pilgrimage whose route and purpose are not publicly settled.
Witnesses have associated Emberglass with warmth, rapid wound closure, and unusual effects on people suffering from the Rotmire Blight. Its limits remain poorly understood outside those who have handled it directly.
Discovery
During Campaign One, Greymire operator Jorick Vance gave the party the job that sent them into the Pale in search of Emberglass. The party recovered it from the Lathander monastery after its elderly caretaker willingly released it in accordance with the religious instruction he believed he had received.
The truth behind that instruction remains a matter of belief rather than established public fact.
