The Spillgut

“I thought it was crawling the wrong way. Like... like its belly was leading. Then the guts came out. Gods help me, the guts were looking for me.”

A Spillgut is a Blightborn whose abdomen and lower torso have opened into a crawling mass of exposed tissue, mouths, fluid, and grasping viscera. It is dangerous less because it pursues quickly than because everything near it becomes harder to understand, cross, and survive.

Appearance

A Spillgut rarely keeps a recognizable human posture. It drags, rolls, and heaves itself forward on inverted limbs and masses of tissue. The torso may appear torn open from ribs to pelvis, with organs and intestinal loops moving independently across the ground.

Faces are not always confined to the head. Survivors describe teeth, lips, eyes, and half-formed mouths appearing in exposed tissue where no such structures should exist.

Its passage leaves a wet, fouled trail that can spread across several yards of ground.

The Gibbering

Spillguts make almost constant noise. The sound is not a single voice but an overlapping babble of fragments: cries, laughter, choking, repeated words, wet clicks, and sounds that resemble speech without resolving into language.

People close to the creature report losing track of what they were doing, moving in the wrong direction, freezing in place, or striking at movement beside them without understanding why.

This makes the Spillgut a battlefield hazard even before it reaches anyone directly.

Distorted Ground

The exposed tissues around a Spillgut snag boots, shift under weight, and make clean movement difficult. Fighting close to one can feel less like standing beside a creature and more like standing inside the outer edge of its body.

Near one, the battlefield stops behaving like ordinary ground. Space that looks open can catch a boot, pull at a leg, blind someone with fluid, or become part of the creature before a victim understands where its body ends.

The creature can also expel a sudden burst of pale, caustic fluid. Those struck describe intense pain and temporary blindness.

A victim brought down beside a Spillgut may be dragged into the open torso and disappear into the mass, leaving equipment behind.

Behavior

Spillguts are commonly reported in heavily Blighted interiors, workyards, flooded structures, tunnels, and ruins where movement is already constrained.

Their noise can draw attention from other Blighted even when it does not appear to direct them deliberately. For that reason, allowing a Spillgut to remain active in a crowded infestation can cause a situation to deteriorate quickly.
